What is Datman

Onboard merchants, process payments for them, and pay out their funds.

Datman is a payment service provider and gateway that sits on top of multiple acquirers. Integrate Datman into your reseller business, ordering platform or commerce platform to sign up merchants, take their payments and pay them out, all through one solution.

Datman APIs

Explore how the Datman APIs work: see example calls to onboard merchants, take payments, and pay out funds in the API Explorer.

As a reseller or platform:

  • You bring merchants to Datman and own the relationship with them. A merchant is a business that takes payments through Datman, for example a restaurant or a takeaway. Each shop is one merchant with one merchant ID (MID).
  • You process payments on behalf of your merchants. Their shoppers, the people who pay, deal directly with your merchants.

With Datman, you can:

  • Onboard and verify your merchants: create merchants, collect their business, owner and bank details, and let Datman verify them before paying out. You can check each merchant's verification status at any time.
  • Take payments: accept card payments on behalf of your merchants through the hosted payment page. You can split a payment between your merchant and other merchants, for example a delivery partner.
  • Change payments: capture, adjust or reverse a pre-authorised payment, and refund a payment to the shopper.
  • Move money: hold your merchants' funds in a Datman account until they are paid out to the merchant's bank account, and move funds between merchants when needed.
  • Report and reconcile: list and look up your merchants' transactions, splits, refunds, balances and payouts for your bookkeeping and reconciliation processes.

How the pieces fit

Datman connects your merchants to the payment networks, so that you integrate once instead of with each acquirer separately. An acquirer is a bank or financial institution that receives funds for a merchant from a shopper. Datman processes your merchants' payments through multiple acquirers.

The end-to-end process is as follows:

  1. You create a merchant in Datman, and Datman issues a MID. The merchant completes onboarding, and Datman verifies them.
  2. A shopper pays your merchant online. Datman processes the payment through one of its acquirers.
  3. Datman sends your server a webhook with the result of the payment.
  4. The funds are held in a Datman account, and are settled to your merchant after the settlement delay agreed at onboarding. This is usually two business days (T+2).
  5. Datman pays out the settled funds to your merchant's bank account, according to their payout schedule.
  6. You use the transaction, balance and payout data to reconcile what your merchants were paid.
